My Evening Skincare Routine
Updated: May 11, 2020
A night time routine to support clear, youthful skin.
At night, I like to get all the serums and potions out to let them work their magic as I sleep. My skin is dry to normal, and tends to be sensitive. Below are the products that work for me. I suggest testing these on your skin in a small area to make sure you don't have any sensitivities.
Cleanse - I use the Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser which is great for all skin types. It does a great job at pulling out impurities and leaving my skin feeling clean, refreshed, and soft. If I am washing off makeup, I usually wash twice to make sure everything is off my face. Make sure you massage for at least one full minute to give it time to work.
Serums - I like to use chemical exfoliaters rather than actual scrubs on my face because scrubs can be abrasive and cause tiny little scratches in the skin. This can lead to infection or in general just irritated skin. When I was younger I used to love a rough face scrub but now I'm older and wiser. I use Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum or
The Ordinary Peeling Solution (budget friendly) and apply to my face and neck. I can see a huge difference in the morning if I skip this step, so I do this every night. If you've never used a glycolic serum or if it's been a while, start with using it twice a week and increase usage each week. Make sure to test your skin to see if you have a reaction. If it feels like keeping it on overnight is just too much for you, try using it as a treatment and just apply for 20 minutes and then rinse off. Follow with moisturizer.
Treatment - Every now and then I'll have a blemish that leaves behind a scar. When this happens I turn to The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension and in just a couple days it disappears. This cream is meant to even skin tone so you can use all over or you can spot treat areas as needed.
Eye Serum - I accidentally stumbled upon The Ordinary Caffeine Solution and it has blown my mind. It's meant to depuff, smooth wrinkles, and lighten dark circles. It works wonders over night and almost immediately. I just dab a little all around my eye and apply what's leftover to my forehead. I notice my eyes look awake and youthful in the morning and over time my fine lines have diminished and my circles have gone away. Sometimes when I wake up, especially during allergy season, my eyes are puffy so a little bit of this serum helps to depuff. It can be used morning and night.
Moisturize - This is my favorite step of all. I just love a good moisturizer. I have used them all. I finally settled on the Kate Sommerville Goat Milk Cream for my regular moisturizer. I work in one pump in upward sweeping motions on my face and neck. You know it's enough moisturizer when your skin doesn't tug as you apply it. Next, I use Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream to add an extra layer of moisture. This can be a moisture mask or you can leave it on. It's wonderful to take with you on a flight and apply while in the air. Rather than using heavy moisturizers, I like using layers of effective moisturizers. It's make the biggest difference.
Lip Treatment - This area is often neglected and for those who are aware, it's really obvious. Dry lips can lead to wrinkling around the mouth. A friend of mine created an amazing treatment. Amore Monet Vanilla Lip Scrub and Amore Monet Lip Love has transformed my lips. Now they are hydrated and soft all the time. I use the lip scrub as needed but I never go to bed without a generous layer of Lip Love. You won't believe how much your lips will plump up when they are hydrated properly. Her products sell out quick so if you see it's available, snap it up! Try her liquid lipstick and gloss too. The liqui lipstick lasts all day without drying!
